Have you ever been so close to quitting something that you almost missed the miracle on the other side?
Last year, I hosted my first in person journaling workshop. It was literally a walk of faith, because I had never organized this type of event before. And with less than 30 days, only a few ladies had signed up. I was getting discouraged. I remember wondering, "is this what I am supposed to be doing?"
I really needed something to confirm that this was the right path forward. So, one day while I was in the car driving, I decided to do something different. In the midst of the discouragement that I was feeling, I started giving thanks.
And what happened next had me in tears.
I parked my car, walked into the venue, and explained the mission of the workshop to the management office. Then without warning, they decided to refund my deposit, and insisted that I host this event at their location, for free. For FREE.
When I heard that, my heart leap so high inside my chest, I felt like the great Alice Coachman in the high jump competition.
That is when I knew for sure that I was not hosting another ordinary workshop. This was an assignment. And when the day of the event finally arrived, we had a beautiful gathering of women who came together to laugh, eat, breathe, write, reflect, and uplift one another.
When we set out to do something that has never been done before-- whether that may be starting a business, auditioning for a part in a play, moving to a new city, going away to college-- we may face situations that feel overwhelming and discouraging. We may even start second guessing ourselves. But sometimes in those moments, when we get quiet enough to settle ourselves down, it becomes clear what we need to do next to get to the other side.
In my case, the answer for me was practicing gratitude, because it helped to shift my focus. But for you, it may be something different.
I'm curious — in the past, what is one small thing that helped you to find a sense of calm when you needed it? If you are feeling stressed right now, do you think that might work in this situation? If so, what is one small step you can take to make that happen right now?
Life will always have its stressful moments, but I encourage you not to let them pull you away from your dreams. Do not let them dim your light. Somebody needs to experience the beautiful gifts that are inside of you. Shine Your Light!
